Some of my favorite blowouts have come from the talented stylists at Madison Reed. I frequented the Flatiron location for a while, as it was just down the street from my old NYC apartment, and every time I left with big, bouncy hair (think chic and polished, not ’80s beauty pageant). I’ve also had my hair colored at the salon (balayage) once before, but traditional highlights were never an option. That is, until today, as the brand makes a long-awaited announcement: the launch of highlight services in its more than 50 Hair Color Bars across the country, a request that came from more than 300 of its customers, every week!

“Adding foil highlights to our Hair Color Bar service menu means meeting the needs of our clients—something we strive to do, in all we do,” says Maureen Watson, chief product officer for Madison Reed, noting that this is also the first product that will be exclusive to their hair color bars and not offered as an at-home product. “Hearing our clients continuously request this service reinforced the demand, and so we set out to create a bleach formula that aligned with our mission—incredible results with ingredients you can feel good about! Our bleach is unique in that it is not only ammonia-free, but it also meets the same strict ‘Smart-8 Free’ ingredient standard as our hair color, while delivering just as much lightening power as traditional ammonia-based bleaches. We’re thrilled to offer this highly requested service, and ultimately, give our clients the gorgeous Madison Reed highlights they’ve been waiting for!”

The new, ammonia-free (no strong, unpleasant odor or harsh side effects) highlight services will include partial and accent foil highlights, in addition to signature services like balayage, root touch-ups and allover color services. Accent highlights include hand-painted or foil highlights applied to the part line or used to frame the face, and start at $75. Partial highlights start at $125 and include hand-painted balayage or foil highlights applied to the crown and sides of the head for allover brightness.
