The inspiration behind a perfume can come from anywhere. A memory, a place or a single scent are all common inspirations for popular perfumes. Leave it to MAC Cosmetics to come up with a brand-new source of inspiration for perfume: lipstick

The soon-to-be-launched MAC Shadescents are six new perfumes that are inspired by and named after MAC’s most popular lipsticks: Lady Danger, Ruby Woo, My Heroine, Candy Yum Yum, Velvet Teddy, and Creme d’Nude. MAC took inspiration from these iconic shades when creating each perfume’s notes.

Curious to know the specific scents that each MAC lipstick inspired? So were we, and luckily MAC has already released the perfumes’ main notes. Lady Danger, which is a fiery orange-red lipstick, has notes of wild cherry. Ruby Woo, a cooler-toned true red, has bold notes of red leather. My Heroine, inspired by the bold purple lipstick, has notes of saffron, incense smoke and cordovan leather. Candy Yum Yum has tropical fruit and cotton candy notes, which isn’t surprising because the lipstick is bright pink. Velvet Teddy, inspired by a rosy-beige lipstick, has notes of wild honey and creamy musk. Finally, Creme d’Nude was inspired by a paler nude lipstick shade and doesn’t have any specific notes listed yet, but is said to “evoke the vibrant sexiness of naked skin.”

MAC Shadescents will be coming out later this month and will be available on MACcosmetics.com and Macys.com on November 30 and available in store on December 8. So, you still have some time to decide which fragrance you want the most, although, just like with its lipsticks, we’re tempted to snap up every scent.
