Lymphatic drainage is a series of light-touch massage techniques that promotes lymph movement through the body. The concept behind the treatment is that manual circulation of lymphatic fluid will facilitate removal of waste material from cells more quickly.
Experts haven’t come to a unanimous conclusion on the efficacy of this technique. However, there is a growing body of evidence to indicate that it is, indeed, useful because lymph stagnation is associated with muscle aches, swollen glands, and general swelling.
In fact, some plastic surgeons consider lymphatic drainage massage effective enough to be prescribed before and after surgery to decrease bruising and swelling.
