Even when hyperpigmentation is at its worst, some of us are reluctant to try typical lightening formulas for fear that they will work a little too well-lightening not just dark spots, but areas around the spots, too. Soon, however, a new ingredient may put this concern to rest.

Dubbed Delentigo by Swiss ingredient supplier Mibelle, this groundbreaking compound is made up of cress extract and a soy isoflavone called genistein. Both components play a unique part that leads to a lightening of just skin’s discolored areas.

The cress extract stimulates proteasomes, protein complexes in the body that become less active with age, to improve skin’s fibroblast function. Meanwhile, genistein inhibits tyrosinase to suppress melanin production.

Tested in vitro, a 4% concentration of Delentigo was shown to reduce the melanin pigmentation in age spots after four weeks; however, the surrounding skin had no unwanted reduction in pigment. After two months, Delentigo closed the gap in pigmentation by 50% percent.

There are no products featuring Delentigo on the market just yet, but when it does debut, its manufacturers expect an enthusiastic response from people looking to achieve a more even skin tone.
