I have to admit: In a world where there are seemingly limitless options when it comes to cosmetics, it takes a lot for a beauty product to stand apart from the glorious masses. One trip down the department store beauty aisle has my head brimming with “this mascara might actually change my life” fantasies, while bright colors and gorgeous packaging also grab my attention. And when there’s a gimmick…you guessed it–I’m interested.
I tell you this, in part, because it’s a gimmick that first peaked my interest when the Beauty For Real Miracle Mascara ($23) and Beauty For Real Miracle Illuminating Light Up Lip Gloss ($22) came across my desk. That’s because both feature an LED-light in the lid and a slightly magnified mirror on the side. Translation: Gone are the days of sloppily reapplying my lip color after a meal or cursing the fact that I left my compact mirror in my other purse.
Once I got past the flashiness of the products, I found that the mascara did help add volume and a black glossy shine to my lashes. And while “miracle” was a stretch, it did last throughout the day without flaking and washed off easily with face cleanser and water. The best part was that I could really get in close and coat every lash with the help of the light and mirror…which means ladies, the gimmick actually isn’t just a gimmick, it really does help.
The lip gloss, which uses marine collagen to naturally give your lips a plump, tingled slightly (not in that annoying, painful way) and had a cooling effect. Plus, the formula wasn’t sticky, and the avocado oil and aloe vera did keep my lips hydrated. It’s available in 15 slightly sparkly shades, so there is a color for everyone. I think it’s a great lip gloss to throw in your purse for a quick lip touch-up and to help you find other things that get lost at the bottom of your bag–just one click and you’ve got light.
