In a new interview with Shape, Kristen Bell shares her love of food and how she uses it to maintain her energy and health.
When asked how she keeps up her energy working as a mother of two, a wife, an actress, and a non-profit volunteer, she replies, “Carbs— I love ‘em!”

With all her cards out on the table, she explains that her “best healthy habit” is reading nutrition labels to ensure she’s getting a proper balance.
“Some people look at what the carbs are and that’s all they think about. Others check to see what the sugar is. And some people just zero in on the protein. I try to balance everything.” For instance, she knows that avocado has a lot of fat, but it’s a healthy fat, so she will eat it with some sea salt. Or she’ll make note that she ate a lot of protein during the day so she’ll have carbs for dinner. “I appreciate understanding what I’m putting into my body.”

She also shares that her average day consists of a matcha to start, egg whites with feta and hot sauce for breakfast, a Chobani yogurt to snack on at work and a “garbage disposal salad” for lunch. “I start with lettuce and add a scoop of rice, a scoop of beans, a handful of nuts, tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, cucumber, strawberries, blueberries, a splash of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon, and some sea salt.” And croutons, cannot forget the croutons since they are her favorite food. “Any and all croutons. I don’t discriminate.”
When all is said and done though, Bell makes a point that your relationship with food isn’t about how you look on the outside, it’s about how it makes you feel inside. “And most important, it’s about keeping fit mentally and physically. I’m constantly reminding myself that it’s not about my thighs: It’s about my commitment and my happiness level.”
Well said, Kristen. Well said.
