Kim Kardashian West has spent much of her life in the public eye, being criticized on the regular for what she wears, what she eats and how she lives. Whether it’s her own selfies or pictures splattered across the internet thanks to relentless paparazzi, Kardashian West has seen every image of herself in the media, but one in particular struck a chord and caused her to make some lifestyle changes.
In an interview with The View this week, Kardashian West said she saw “awful photos” of herself while on a trip in Mexico and “people were photoshopping them and sharpening them” online. Despite the totally uncalled for overreaction by the public, the incident motivated her to take a closer look at her fitness routine and diet habits.
“I mean I definitely was not in my best shape. I hadn’t worked out in 12 weeks. I had two surgeries on my uterus…I was already not feeling like myself, and then when people were sharpening them and making them look way worse and then those were going around, I was like, ‘Okay. I’m gonna get it together.’”
To “get it together,” she started working out with a “bodybuilder girl” she found on social media, and “totally changed” her diet. “It’s only been three weeks, and I’m in it for the long haul,” the mother of two said. “I definitely think that you have to do the work. I get up every morning between 5:30 and 6:00, work out before my kids get up, and now I’ve been working out for an hour and a half [every day]. But I think there are things that push you.”

After taking a closer look at her diet, Kardashian West sought help from her “bodybuilder” and realized she was making a mistake that was holding her back from being her healthiest, fittest self. “I was eating less thinking like, ‘Okay. I’m just not gonna eat this. But I was eating absolutely no carbs or trying to, and that’s really hard for me. She’s really helped me with my meal plan to definitely add healthy carbs, vegetables. I was just not eating properly.”
Although it’s only been less than a month, the reality star is experiencing great results. “I see already, in just a few weeks, my body tightening up. I’ve literally just shrunk and come into place and I’m excited. We’re doing these intense workouts and I love working out. That’s a big stress reliever for me.”
