With a body to die for and abs that are so super chiseled that it looks like only a sculptor could create them, I always wanted to know exactly what Kate Hudson does to get her beyond-gorgeous figure. The answer, of course, is diet and exercise—two things I don’t always abide by (even though I try to).

While the private training sessions were out of the question, the only attainable option was her delivery diet, Sakara Life ($255). A favorite of other A-listers with to-die-for bodies—Lily Aldridge, Gwyneth Paltrow and Molly Sims are also fans—I gave the plant-based whole-food diet a three-day run.

Each day started the same: wake up and down a bottle of Beauty Water (which I opted out of purely because it tasted like I was drinking puree roses and I just couldn’t do it despite all of its beautifying benefits), have breakfast, which consisted one day of granola with almond milk; another day it was a delicious raspberry bread-meets-muffin type thing; and the last day was another variation. A few hours came lunch, which was almost always some type of salad with a good-for-you dressing that didn’t skimp on taste in the least bit and, finally, dinner. The dinner meals I had included everything from a modern, healthy take on the classic Caesar salad, a Middle Eastern bowl and noodles. After dinner came Night Water, a chlorella-rich drink which balances out bad bacteria, and the Detox Tea, which does just what it says.

While three days wasn’t really enough time on Sakara to see a major change in my body, I did notice that I felt lighter and more energized. Eating clean was actually enjoyable, not like some other vegan dishes that taste like a barely edible mix of seeds and nuts. The meals actually tasted like food—the breakfasts were my absolute favorite—and left me feeling pretty full. While I still craved something sweet midday and after dinner, I didn’t have any indigestion or other stomach issues. Each morning when I woke up, my stomach looked flatter than the next.

I also loved how I had the energy to pop out of bed and get to my regular Xtend Barre classes. On nights when I treat myself to pasta, pizza or any other cheese- and carb-laden food, I can barely make it out of bed in the morning, let alone raise my legs high enough to do a releve. I felt more equipped to face the gym and the day.

You would think that not eating meat or carbs would leave you feeling hungry, but I wasn’t. Some of the dishes were so jam-packed with nutrients and fiber that I couldn’t even finish my plate.

Sadly enough, I didn’t have Kate Hudson’s body in less than a week. But, I think that if I were to be super diligent about eating clean and really making the most out of my workouts—and adding more cardio into the mix—I could be one step closer to getting there.
