Reality star Kim Kardashian is gracing front pages and headlines as usual, but this time for a different reason. The it-girl known for her good looks and sense of style revealed to the world that she suffers from psoriasis. The non-contagious, form of skin inflammation plagues millions and we’re happy to see a public figure in the spotlight speaking up about common skin conditions. But with Kim’s wedding coming up early this month, we’re hoping her psoriasis doesn’t get in the way, so we reached out to New York, NY, dermatologist Dennis Gross MD, to get all the facts.
“It is absolutely possible to live with psoriasis. If you are diligent and follow doctor’s orders, the rash can be made invisible. Psoriasis’ condition is hard to predict because its symptoms vary. It could be a little patch that you get once or twice (and cream takes it away) or it could be something that comes and goes for the rest of your life and covers your body. People with this condition should avoid stress and alcohol. External pressure can irritate the condition too, but most of the time it is caused by genetics. A good tip for Kim (on her wedding day) is to keep her stress levels low and avoid tight shoes and sandal straps, etc,” says Dr. Gross.
