Simple Approach: “I have always been very conservative of what I’ve done to my skin. I look after it and I don’t believe in abandoning it and then trying to fix it with something really drastic, really fast. I try to be consistent with the basics.”

Anti-Aging Treatment

“I have never gotten something done just because it was a trend or the next ‘biggest wonder.’ I
tend to stay away from aggressive things. I’ve never even had a peel or microdermabrasion.”

Healthy-Hair Trick

“My hair is very, very curly. And, sometimes, when it’s on one of those in-between days, I just put conditioner on the ends and wait 20 minutes and then rinse it off with water without shampoo. It’s like an at-home treatment.”

Philosophy

“Women are, by nature, moody. Once a month, we start freaking out. Our skin is moody, our hair is moody, we are moody. Listen to it, look after it, but, when it’s not behaving, be prepared for it to happen and don’t do anything drastic. So many people make beauty decisions in a
panic.”

Go-To Regimen

“You can’t use the same thing all the time. Have two or three different creams. Sometimes you need something light; sometimes you need something else.”

Beauty Advice

“My grandmother used to say, ‘No matter how tired you are, you never go to sleep without cleaning your skin.’ I think that probably has saved me over the years.”

Beauty Inspiration

“For me, traveling helps me come up with beauty ideas. I like going into the markets in places like Morocco or Russia to see the things people use.”

Food Fix

“Quinoa. It’s fantastic because it makes you feel like you are having rice or pasta or carbs, but it’s really protein and it’s very filling. I mix it with a little olive oil and some chopped vegetables. It’s a good friend to have in your diet.”

Skin-Care Muse

“Everywhere I go I see a dermatologist. I make an appointment, I consult and I find out what new things they are working on.”

Facial Fix

“I try not to get anything from people who do harsh things, which is hard to find now. I try to keep it natural.”

Ingredient

“Olive oil. It’s good for the hair, the skin, the body—it’s good for everything. It does marvelous things.”

360 Approach

“I’m not always good about this, but what you eat and what you drink shows up on your skin. If you are too skinny, you mess up your metabolism. Look at those people you know who have always been too thin their entire lives; look at their skin now! Their skin has aged the fastest.”

Diet Advice

“You must have the minimum level of fat if you are a woman. Not a lot. I confess, sometimes I have had too much of it. But, for the skin, it’s better to have some fat. I am not saying to go out and eat fried food. It’s important to have the right kinds of fat.”

Zen

“Not relaxing is my weakness and anyone with children can understand that. But those five to 10 minutes after you wake up in the morning—that time when you can pretend you are still sort of sleeping—can be the time to do something spiritual. Even if you just aren’t thinking, it helps.”
