Perhaps looks shouldn’t matter when it comes to landing a job, but even scientific research says they do. In telling experiments at Rice University and the University of Hudson, interviewers had a difficult time remembering what competent job candidates said if they had facial scars, birthmarks or blemishes.
The researchers tracked the eye movement of interviewers and determined that the more their eyes shifted to an irregularity, the weaker their recollection was. Bottom line: The way your face looks can dampen your chances of getting the job.
Camouflaging any such issues is a breeze with a concealer and Hard Candy Nobody’s Perfect Concealer Palette ($8) comes in six shades, from pastels to skin tone, to mask any conceivable flaw.
To finish the interview-ready look, keep in mind where you are applying. For a start-up, social media company, a tidy but casual look will work. If you wear your hair down, tame flyaways and keep it off your face.
If you’re heading into a more conservative office environment, pull hair back and be sure to keep makeup neutral. No matter where you’re going, now’s not the time to try out your new glitter shadow, ombre nail polish or dark red lip stain. Keep it clean and simple to get the job.
