There’s something about Zooming early morning with Beverly Hills, 90210 alum Jennie Garth that just sets up the day a little better.

“I’m sorry! My dog is scratching; I am so sorry,” apologizes the always-youthful 50-year old on a recent press day for her new partnership with Voltaren Arthritis Pain Gel, the first prescription-strength, over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory gel that delivers arthritis pain relief. Besides being a huge beauty-and-wellness guru, Garth is teaming up with the brand to launch the CareWalks campaign—a project near and dear to her heart—to help caregivers “find joy in movement,” while sharing her own personal experience with osteoarthritis.

Why is this partnership so important to you?

“I always knew that arthritis ran in my family, so it was something that was kind of on my radar. I started to feel some stiffness in my hips and knees and I wanted to ignore the signs; I associated it with getting older and I wasn’t interested in that. The reality is, I am getting older, I am aging and things are starting to happen.

I started using Voltaren, and then I found out about this wonderful campaign we’re doing called CareWalks, which is a great opportunity to start conversations about the work that caregivers do every day—just the selfless act of giving care to somebody else. It’s a nice opportunity to showcase that and celebrate these people. Oftentimes, caregivers are experiencing their own pain and working through that as they take care of someone else. This was just a great opportunity that came up to shine a light on these wonderful people.”

You just entered a new decade. How did that feel?

“It’s hard to describe, because every time you hit a milestone birthday, it’s another range of emotions. It used to be a lot more exciting. Now, it’s like, OK, let me figure this out…but turning 50 isn’t what it used to be. I honestly feel like I just turned 30; I’m so active and vibrant and on-the-go all the time and juggling so many things. I think I’m balancing everything so much better now, so I’m very excited for my 50s.”

I know you are really into wellness. How does that routine look like for you now?

“I start every day with some beautiful, bold berries, oatmeal and some antioxidants. I try to start my day off right every day. I’ve been working with a weight-lifting trainer three days a week, which I think is really important to keep our bodies strong. Stretching is a huge part of being healthy as you get older, so I stay active. I golf now, which keeps me out in nature. Being in nature is a huge part of wellness, mental wellness and mental well-being for me.”

What was the last beauty-related thing you did for the first time?

“I just did Morpheus8; I did a series of three of them. It’s supposed to tighten, lift, refine, all the good things, over time. I’m excited to see how that will turn out!”

That’s a good one. Can you share any beauty products you’ve used since you first started working?

“Do they still make those products?! One staple I’ve always used is something I actually make in my kitchen and I have forever. It’s a spray mist that I use and it has hyaluronic acid in it, essential oils, some aloe vera, and I use it morning and night. It’s a hydrating mist I really believe in it. I think it really works!”
