According to founder of Huda Beauty Hudda Kattan’s YouTube video (below), supermodel Bella Hadid taught Hudda Kattan the K-Beauty hack jamsu. Roughly translating to “submerging” or “diving,” it helps mattify your makeup and give you a flawless, airbrushed finish. It involves putting on your foundation and concealer, then covering your face in powder and then submerging your face in water, patting off the excess powder and revealing perfectly matte, baby-soft skin.

You might think, no way this could work. When you get caught in the rain, it certainly doesn’t make your makeup look better, you look like a total mess (at least I do). Here, get a glimpse of Kattan trying the technique.

Korean women know their beauty, and if they say it works, I believe them. Here’s an inside look at what happened when I tried jamsu for the first time, and my feedback below.

So I can say without hesitation that this hack really works! It’s actually pretty awesome. After wrapping up filming this video, I took a long hard look at my skin in the mirror and it really did appear airbrushed and mattified. The finish was incredibly smooth (similar to the way skin feels when it’s been professionally airbrushed)—my blush just glided right on and melted into my skin so evenly.
One tip I will share, which is evident in the video (whoops!), is not to wear mascara while you do this. I happened to have already had it on, but if you’re getting ready and you want to try this trick on a fresh face, definitely apply your eye makeup afterward. If not, you’ll be left with a bit of a mess to clean up like I was.
Aside from that fact that it doesn’t seem like the most practical hack ever—I mean, you are sticking your face in a bowl full of water—it’s a good one that I think you should try, and it might just be the next big thing.
