Let’s Just Get to the Point:
For those of us who want an overnight glow without any of the fuss, James Read Sleep Mask Face Retinol ($38) delivers a believable tan to skin, along with a drink of hydration and a dose of wrinkle-reducing retinol with every use.

If You Want to Know More:
The world of at-home self-tanning has grown leaps and bounds from its original mitt-and-lotion days. Innovative launches varying from buildable tanning drops to bronzing face masks are hitting the scene daily, each promising all of the glow with none of the rays—an idea we, and our dermatologists, can’t get enough of—but sometimes, they can get a little overwhelming. Case in point: my own debacle with the ever-popular work-while-you-sleep bronzers.

Creating a healthy glow while you snooze is a no-brainer for anyone with a busy schedule, but I often opt out of using these products for the simple fact that I don’t know where the step should fall in my skin-care routine: After moisturizer? Before? I should obviously skip retinol on nights I use a self-tanner on my face, right? The list of questions goes on and eventually ends in skipping the step altogether. But what if before-bed bronzing was so simple you couldn’t mess it up? Luckily, the geniuses at James Read simplified the often-daunting step with their latest launch: Sleep Mask Face Retinol ($38).

As the name suggests, the multitasking product is a nighttime face mask (wash it off in the morning) that works to hydrate and create a believable bronze while you sleep, all in one simple step. But unlike James Read’s original Sleep Mask, this one is spiked with anti-aging retinol to take confusion out of the equation entirely.

Slow-release encapsulated retinol ensures the perfect amount of the wrinkle-busting ingredient is dispensed into the skin over time, not all at once, for the best result. Other heavy-hitting ingredients include hydrating hyaluronic acid, floral nectar to soften rough texture and Prodizia, an ingredient the brand claims “protects and renews skin” while tanning. The best part? Using it couldn’t be easier: Apply a thin layer onto bare skin before bed and cleanse in the morning, and always be sure to take it down your neck too to ensure a cohesive just-got-back-from-vacation look.
