It seems we are always looking for the fountain of youth or at least something to keep the effects of aging at bay. And scientists didn’t have to look too far for the newest secret weapon to be added to the anti-aging arsenal. This latest ingredient wasn’t discovered in a chemist’s lab, but rather in our own backyards-in the extract of poplar tree leaf buds.
Propolis, a substance found in beehives that actually comes from poplar buds has already made its way into some cosmetics products and scientists were curious about the extent of antioxidant properties in poplar buds and whether or not they might be suitable for use in skin creams. Using extracts from the buds, researchers found that they did have moderate antioxidant capabilities as well as some anti-aging effects in laboratory tests, exhibiting some serious potential for use in the anti-aging cosmetics market.
