Let’s be honest, we’ve all considered getting liposuction at some point (even if just for a second), but we wouldn’t necessarily encourage our children to do it at an early age. Well, it turns out one mother thinks it’s a great gift for her seven-year-old. Instead of dolls or crayons, she gave her a liposuction voucher for Christmas. Sadly, we’re not kidding.
According to reports, Sarah Burge spent nearly $1 million on plastic surgery for herself to earn the self-proclaimed title “Human Barbie.” So we weren’t terribly surprised that she would move on to her daughter, Poppy. But here’s the real kicker: liposuction isn’t Poppy’s first plastic surgery themed gift. She received a voucher for breast augmentation on her birthday too!
Burge defends herself against critics saying, “Some people think it’s controversial. And I get angry when strangers say I’m a bad mother because I don’t think there’s any harm in giving her this gift. I see these vouchers as investing in her future, like saving money for her education.”
While she claims to have the best intentions, Burge really isn’t doing her daughter any favors. Instead, she’s giving her daughter a “Get Out of Jail Free” card. Instead of exercising and eating well, Poppy could live an unhealthy lifestyle knowing she has her gift to fall back on. Liposuction can be a quick fix, but in order to see long-term results the patient must maintain a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately, it’s extremely difficult to change poor diet and exercise habits when they’re developed at such an early age.
We don’t know about you, but we didn’t even know what liposuction was at that age, nor did we expect it as a gift. But we want to know what you think. Should parents invest in plastic surgery for their children?
