The red or purplish marks that represent the end of a pimple may fade away, but the scars and pockmarks left by acne will not. Although there is no perfect solution for these frustrating pits, there are methods to improve the skin’s appearance.
Treatments for scarring from undulating marks (the up-and-down depressions) include microdermabrasion and laser resurfacing. “Ice pick” scars can be treated with surgical methods such as subcision, that release the scar, or they can be cut out with a punch-type instrument.
In recent years, it has become popular to use injectable dermal fillers to create temporary improvement in deeper, wider pockmarks.
