Eating less than 1,000 calories per day can trigger the production of ghrelin because the body won’t have access to enough food to keep the stomach full for long enough. Eat fiber-rich foods (they stretch the stomach so you stay full) at least every three hours because ghrelin is produced and secreted every four hours.
