From gunmetal silver and deep gold to bronze and even icy white, rich, dark metallic makeup, that echoes the sumptuous tones seen on the runway and in ultraluxe pieces, is making a statement. Metallic makeup doesn’t need to equate to glittery or overtly shimmery makeup. It’s actually pretty simple to wear, if you do it right.

On Your Nails:
Dark metallic tend to be easier to wear, but light shades work as well. The key is to pick a hue that contrasts against your skin tone. This season, even red, green and purple metallic polishes are in style. One to try: Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in No More Drama ($16) is an opaque, deep caramel shade that flashes shimmers of copper and bronze.

On Your Eyes:
When wearing gilded colors, create a good base first with foundation so your makeup doesn’t streak. Metallics can be tricky—too pale of a color can wash you out, which is why makeup artist Julianne Kaye says a metallic smoky eye is best. A metallic smoky eye creates a sexy look, perfect for nighttime. Pair gold or bronze with dark blue or black liner for a sophisticated look. During the day, do the same except with lighters colors.

We like the golden metallic Chanel Ombres Matelassées Palette in 51, Montaigne ($80) since all five shadows help to accentuates the eyes. For an eyeliner, we like the long-lasting staying power of Youngblood Incredible Wear Gel Liner in Galaxy ($21). It’s a dark gray shade with a hint of sparkle to it.

On Your Lips:
For a sparkly look, choose a glossy silver or gold formula. Silver or gold lipstick gives a hint of shimmer. Try layering Estée Lauder Pure Color Vivid Shine Lipstick Luminizer in Gunmetal ($25) over any shade.
