Some of us weren’t blessed with Angelina Jolie’s lips (including myself, admittedly), but luckily there are beauty products that can help. We spoke to Hannah Hatcher, makeup artist and global educator for jane iredale, to find out how you can make your lips bigger using makeup. Turns out, it’s easier than you think, and it really works!

Step 1

Choose a neutral lip color, or a color with a sheer finish (not matte), but avoid shades that are too light or have a frosty finish. Wearing a color that is too dark can create the illusion of smaller or slimmer lips.

Step 2

Create somewhat of a 3-D effect. To do this, use either a white eye pencil or a neutral highlighter pencil and draw a thin line just above the cupid’s bow on the top lip, and a thin line on the lower lip just below the lip line. Blend it well with your fingertips so there are no obvious lines or white around your lips. The light color creates an illusion of light, making your lips pop!

Step 3

Apply your lipstick. Then, as a finishing touch, dab a lip gloss in a complementary shade (or clear) right on the center of your bottom lip to create a fuller look.

If you’re short on time, Hatcher says the quickest and easiest way to create the illusion of fuller lips is to use a product that has a glossy finish. “Gloss will reflect light and create a shiny, voluminous appearance. And, for an added bonus, try wearing a lip plumper underneath the gloss.”
