There are so many concerns we have with our skin from fine lines and wrinkles to acne and so on. While we reach for different skin-care products to help us get the complexion we want, there are a few skin woes, like broken blood vessels, that can’t be removed with an over-the-counter cream or serum. That’s where lasers come in handy.

“We use an [Intense Pulsed Light] IPL laser to treat blood vessels on the face,” says Prospect, KY, dermatologist Tami Cassis, MD. “IPL can treat both broken blood vessels and brown spots and usually people have both, so we feel why not kill two birds with one treatment.” Another laser option Dr. Cassis uses to go after those stubborn blood vessels is the Pulsed Dye Laser. It directly shrinks the blood vessels and will also reduce redness.

Sarasota, FL, dermatologist Elizabeth F. Callahan, MD, uses both Vbeam and IPL to treat broken blood vessels on the face. “I typically use Vbeam for broken capillaries that are resistant to IPL. However, for the blood vessels on the face and chest I prefer to use IPL because there’s less downtime and less bruising than with Vbeam.”

What methods have you tried to eliminate broken blood vessels?
