Nobody wants to deal with frustrating body acne, especially in the summer when the temperatures are high and you want to show some skin. Thankfully, there are some ways to prevent body acne and treat it if you already have some breakouts.
If you get chest, back or even buttocks breakouts when the weather gets warmer, the culprit might not be acne in the traditional sense. It could be caused by a combination of perspiration, heat, friction and even skin care products.
Perspiration acts like a film that traps oil, dirt and debris in the pore. If you work out, or if you’re prone to sweating, be sure to shower frequently and most importantly, right after you work out. Clothing can also cause problems in your skin. When you wear clothing that doesn’t breathe, it traps sweat against the skin and clogs pores. Irritating fabric can also cause breakouts because skin reacts to friction. Try to stick to loose-fitting cotton, linen or moisture-wicking fabrics whenever possible.
Although they are meant to give you beautiful skin, some skin care products can actually clog pores on the body. Depending on where you break out, pay attention to the products that come in contact with your skin. Try to avoid ingredients like mineral oils or heavy moisturizers. Hair products, detergents and fabric softeners can also cause skin to breakout.
Also remember to keep your skin hydrated. If you do, your skin will learn to produce less oil and the skin won’t congest as easily or quickly.
Another good tip to avoid body acne is to try and cut out sugar and dairy from your diet because acne can also be a sign of an internal problem.
When you treat body breakouts, don’t try to dry them up as you would with a blemish on your face. Instead, cleanse and exfoliate your skin using glycolic acid or enzyme-based products. Body facials typically consist of a steam, scrub, a peel if necessary, along with a detox and an antibacterial mud mask. Microdermabrasion can also go a long way. It is a great way to exfoliate and remove bacteria, while also stimulating new cells for a better complexion.
If that’s not enough, you could also try an LED blue light treatment. Blue light is most beneficial at preventing breakouts post-wax by providing the skin with antibacterial properties.
