Philosophy

For Guy M. Lewis, DDS, AAACD being named as Houston’s “Best of the Best” dentist in 2020 and 2021 by The Houston Chronicle is a distinction that highlights his 38 years in dentistry. However, he believes praise and awards are secondary to the satisfaction of his patients. “Playing a part in someone’s transformation is the reason that I enjoy coming to work every day,” Dr. Lewis says. As an accredited and founding member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, he has forged a career that has earned him countless honors, such as serving as the official cosmetic dentist for the Houston Astros and the former official cosmetic dentist for the Houston Rockets and the Miss Texas Pageant. Dr. Lewis has also been named as one of America’s best dentists in Best Dentists in America, a “Top Dentist” in H Texas magazine and a “Super Dentist” by Texas Monthly. Through his meticulous approach, compassionate service and artisan level skill, he continues to define the standard for excellence in his industry

FAQs

  1. How much can tooth contouring change my smile?
    What our experts say:

You can get a dramatic change from tooth contouring depending on the situation. If you have pointy teeth and you don’t want that or if you have uneven teeth, it’s amazing what tooth contouring can do for your smile.

  2. Can a gum lift erase my gummy smile and how much will it hurt?
    What our experts say:

I wouldn’t say it’s painless. It can be uncomfortable but usually it’s more of a tenderness for a few days to a week that can be managed with Advil. I would say it has mild to moderate discomfort. It can give dramatic results.

  3. Can a smile makeover help me look younger?
    What our experts say:

When we’re doing veneers and full mouth reconstruction, we’re often doing something called opening the bite where we restore it to how it was before they ground their teeth down and lost the vertical height in the lower third of the face. I call it a smile lift. What were doing is building the teeth up to support the face for a more youthful look.

  4. What are the advantages of no-prep veneers?
    What our experts say:

The obvious advantage is that you don’t have to remove any of the enamel, so your teeth are not altered. Some people like the security of knowing that if something were to happen in the future, then they could have them taken off and it would be like they had never done anything to their teeth. It’s more conservative, which patients like. I developed my own type of no-prep veneers called G. Lewis Veneers, and I did that because there are others on the market that I didn’t feel looked very good. So I developed these to be more lifelike and precise. I was concerned about them being too bulky, but when I committed to creating G. Lewis Veneers, I was surprised at how thin we could make them.

  5. When do you need crowns instead of veneers?
    What our experts say:

If someone has a large filling or broken down tooth, sometimes a crown is a better option. Or if it’s way out of alignment and the upper and lower teeth don’t touch, you can use a crown to help fix the bite. If the teeth have had root canals, the teeth might need to be crowned because they tend to be more brittle, but not all the time. For the back teeth, I would definitely recommend a crown if they have had root canals.
