Plastic surgery recovery centers are often shrouded in secrecy and mystique, but the fact is these specially-equipped facilities are about more than just helping celebrities escape the paparazzi. Medical care in the first hours and days after surgery is priority number one.
The recovery experience begins just an hour or two after surgery, when the patient is picked up from the recovery room, usually by limo, and taken to the facility-which, in many cases, is a floor or block of rooms in a hotel. For utmost privacy, most recovery centers feature private entries, possibly in underground garages, to shield patients from the outside world.
Once inside, patients settle into their specially appointed room or suite. While the rooms typically include electric beds to help patients get up and down and to create the ideal elevation to drain swelling, recovery centers distinguish patient quarters from their hotel counterparts by using special touches like artwork, rugs and knickknacks to make it feel more like home-a very luxurious one.
