Trying new skincare products is part of my job, and let’s just say that if I had a dollar for every product I’ve tried, I wouldn’t need a job at all. For the past two months, I’ve been using a system called Modus, and moving forward, it’s going to be difficult to get me to stray.
It all started with an impromptu desk-side appointment one Friday morning, and after seeing the astonishing before-and-after photos (for rosacea and melasma patients, nonetheless) I was intrigued. At first I was a bit put off by all the steps (6 in the morning, 8 at night with my prescription Ziana), but I decided to give it a try anyway. If my skin could look that good, it’s a small price to pay.
The concept behind the Italian-born Modus line is getting your skin to the optimal pH to maximize penetration of the active ingredients, which are mainly vitamin C, olive leaf extract and glycolic acid. The line includes the PrepH cleanser, PuripHy pH Modifier (a pH-lowering toner), vitamin C serum, three targeted products to clarify skin’s tone, ExpHoliate (to encourage the shedding of dull skin), Regenerate cream, and a 0.03% melatonin cream to regulate the skin’s function.
The first time I saw my aesthetician for my monthly facial after I started using the line, she couldn’t believe how great my skin looked. She kept saying how firm it felt, and many of my colleagues have commented on how fresh and dewy my skin looks. I’ve even noticed my fine lines are now practically nonexistent, and those little creases in my nasolabial folds are gone. The downside: My bathroom looks like an apothecary with all the potions and lotions, but I’m willing to make room for them to keep my skin looking this great.
