Blackheads often feel like the most persistent beatuy problem—no matter how many times you extract them, they always seem to come back. If you suffer from blackheads, here is what you need to do:
First, the best way to get rid of blackheads is with a proper cleansing. Skimping on your skin-care rotuine is usually the casue of them, so look for cleanser with salicylic acid. This topical ingredient is great for treating blackheads because it “removes some of the oils and dead skin cells that clog your pores, so it prevents future clogging,” says Washington D.C. dermatologist Terrence Keaney, MD.
Another important element of your skin-care routine is good exoliation. When you resurface your skin, you unclog pores filled with dead skin and bacteria. To treat your blackheads and the signs of aging at the same time, Dr. Keaney recommends a retinol product. “It is great for aging and acne because it has an anti-inflammatory effect and helps to resurface skin to unclog pores,” he says.
Finally, you don’t only have to fight blackheads at night. You can use complexion-clearing actives during the day to really help keep your skin clear. Look for oil-free makeup primers and makeup products for acne-prone skin.
