The Surprising Household Ingredients That Add Volume To Hair featured image

Those of us not naturally blessed with bouncy, voluminous hair are ever on the hunt for the perfect volumizing solution. From leave-ins and sprays to talcs, it’s a never-ending salon and shelf search. Turns out, some of the best options can be found right at home.

Look no further than your kitchen: baking soda and vinegar are your new shampoo and conditioner. Mixing these two household ingredients may sound like a science project gone awry, but in reality, the combination makes a volumizing shampoo that delivers serious results.

First, mix one part baking soda with three parts water to make a paste. Apply it to your wet hair (especially the roots). Leave it in for a few minutes, then rinse it off entirely with water.

Next, combine one part vinegar with four parts water (add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to customize the fragrance). Rinse your hair with the concoction. Then, let the solution rinse out completely under cold water.

The result: shiny hair that’s full of volume and body, and serious savings on shampoo and conditioner!
