“By far, the top things men are coming in for are injectables for the face and body contouring such as CoolSculpting,” Dr. Eviatar says. And when it comes to body contouring, men have two specific areas they want to target: love handles and abs. “We explain that we can tighten the skin and get better definition for those who work out. These non-invasive procedures are driving people in more than liposuction.” He also adds that, as expected, hair loss is another big concern, “but patients are still not as aware about the alternatives to major surgery such as SmartGraft or micro pigmentation.”

Kybella

Right now, there’s a big interest in jaw improvement and Dr. Eviatar says that has to do with both the introduction of Kybella, which allows for an injection treatment to reduce the double chin, and the fact that patients are now aware there is filler that can make the jawline look stronger. “Men’s faces can be optimized with a stronger jawline, and the way the eyes and brows look without necessarily making them look younger.”

Nonsurgical Procedures

Dr. Eviatar says the overarching trend for men is nonsurgical procedures. “Men, in general, tend to think more about surgery because they do not want to be bothered as often about maintenance visits, but do not understand that nothing, including surgery, gives a permanent result. They are realizing that injectables can give long-term results (one to two years),” he says. “Men can age and look good with wrinkles, but what they realize now is that there are in-office procedures such as injectables that are not related to wrinkles, but rather how good they look, such as a masculine cheekbone, jawline, and brow position so that their lids don’t look heavy. As they realize that all of this can be done nonsurgically in many cases and may only require yearly maintenance, these procedures become more appealing.”

Anything That Helps Them Look More Awake

One of our biggest beauty problems also hits the other sex: “Men are increasingly terrified of looking tired and having bags under their eyes,” Dr. Eviatar says. “They feel like there is increased pressure from younger competitors at work and they don’t want to be the guy at work who is thought of as not being up to speed because he is old and looks tired. So, the rejuvenating procedures are different in that they are more about making the face look its best, as opposed to making them look younger.”

Women aren’t the only ones who want to look good in their wedding pictures. “When you think about it, men have the most to gain from facial injections because women can use hair style, makeup and other culturally accepted fixes to improve their appearance whereas men have quite few. Young grooms that want to look good can have the jawline and nose they want nonsurgically.”

“Brotox” Off-Label

Another injectable on the list, Dr. Eviatar says that the common term of “Brotox” has been a marketing tool, but men are just starting to learn about the subtle improvements they can get that go beyond targeting wrinkles. “Botox is still being used suboptimally for most men in that there are benefits of using Botox in the chin and jawline, which is off-label, and also with brow shaping, which is not associated with wrinkling.”
