Celebs, they’re just like us, right? No, but so many of us want to look like them so it’s common practice for patients to bring a famous person’s photo to a cosmetic procedure consultation. Bringing in a picture for reference is one way that doctors and patients can get on the same page as far as aesthetic goals and realistic expectations. You might not be able to achieve the exact same look as your celebrity idol, but bringing in a photo of their nose, lips, cheeks or backside may help you communicate the characteristics of a particular body part or feature you find appealing. We reached out to top doctors across all aesthetic fields to ask which celebrity photos are most often brought to a consultation and which features patients most want to emulate.

Angelina Jolie

Miami dermatologist Flor Mayoral, MD: “Many patients looking for lip augmentation will bring photos of lips on their wishlist. Often, Angelina Jolie is the photo they bring. Sometimes this is anatomically impossible, but it gives me the opportunity to tell patients that what we really want is a better, fresher version of themselves.”

Colleyville, TX, plastic surgeon Yadro Ducic, MD: “Patients like the natural fullness and pout of her lips, as well as the amount of red lip showing. Even without lipstick or liner, her lips look full and attractive.”

Willowbrook, IL, dermatologist Jessie Cheung, MD: “The ‘ogee curve’ is a mathematical term we use to describe the smooth transition from the cheekbones to the hollow underneath. Angelina’s face is a classic example of a beautiful ogee curve. She catches the eye first because of the pleasing proportions of her midface (eyes, cheekbones, nose), and then her lips, which seal the deal. It’s interesting, people bring in her photo and think they want her lips, but often end up having a ‘liquid facelift’ along with lip augmentation to create the ogee curve that Angelina has.”

Jennifer Lopez

Ellicot City, MD, plastic surgeon Daniel Markmann, MD: “Patients bring in photos of Jennifer Lopez because they’re interested in having a similar butt or waistline. What’s been found to make a woman’s figure most attractive is having a nice waist-to-hip ratio like Jennifer’s. Most women don’t naturally have this proportion and rarely can any person achieve a significant change in their body proportions by exercise and diet alone. You’re either naturally blessed with it or we can help achieve this figure with liposuction and/or fat grafting to the buttocks.”

Kylie Jenner

Fresno, CA, dermatologist Kathleen Behr, MD: “Kylie Jenner has flawless skin and beautifully shaped plump lips that patients want to emulate.”

Brad Pitt

Delray Beach, FL, dermatologist Janet Allenby, MD: “Brad Pitt has a square-shaped face with a wide jawline, which is perceived by both men and women as strong and masculine.”

Kim Kardashian

Sugar Land, TX, plastic surgeon Peter Chang, MD: “My patients usually bring in pictures of Kim Kardashian’s buttocks and ask me to reproduce it on them. Kim has brought buttock aesthetics north of the equator. The thin, skinny model generation is declining. Curves and shapely figures are now the trend.”

Grand Rapids, MI, plastic surgeon Ryan Mitchell, MD: “Society’s idea of beauty is fluid and always changing. Currently, we are seeing significant influence on ideal body proportions and accentuated body curves by individuals trying to mimic their favorite social media celebrities like Kim Kardashian. Unfortunately, many of these celebrity photos have been edited to exaggerate these ideals, which can make them difficult to accomplish.”

Natalie Portman

New York plastic surgeon B. Aviva Preminger, MD: “Natalie Portman is a classic beauty with fine features reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn. Her brown, almond-shaped eyes, clear skin and small, symmetric nose have a natural appeal. Her frame is petite but pear-shaped, giving curves to her slight frame. The combination is simultaneously striking and understated, making her beauty fairly indisputable and potentially attainable.”

Megan Fox

West Palm Beach, FL, plastic surgeon Michael Schwartz, MD: “For Megan Fox, most patients say they love how her nose looks sculpted but without sharp edges. I believe that what they see is that she has incredible facial symmetry and balance. As your eye transitions from her brows to her cheeks, nose and jawline, a blending appears almost perfect without any uneven shadowing to distract you or suggest a flaw.”

Spartanburg, SC, plastic surgeon Michael Orseck, MD: “Patients love her full lips and natural, feminine figure. Subtle injections with a dermal filler like Juvéderm can help achieve Megan’s natural-looking pout with enhanced volume.”

Julia Roberts

San Francisco cosmetic dentist Niloufer Hamsayeh, DDS: “Julia Roberts has a beautiful, broad smile with teeth that are wonderfully proportionate. She does not show a lot of gum tissue when she smiles and she has a very vibrant, youthful and welcoming smile. These are the characteristics my patients seek when they bring in a photo of her.”

George Clooney

Beverly Hills, CA, hair transplant surgeon Craig Ziering, DO: “Patients who bring in a celebrity photo like George Clooney’s are looking for a strong, youthful hairline that frames their face. In addition to following the rule of aesthetic thirds in the horizontal plane of the face, defined temporal peaks balance the face in the vertical plane. This creates the masculine look celebrities have and patients desire.”

New York cosmetic dentist Jason Kasarsky, DDS: “George Clooney’s smile appears masculine and has harmony from right to left. His teeth are not too white or mature-looking. George’s smile shows strength from within. The front four teeth are almost straight across, which denotes power. Of course, his teeth are also surrounded by a very attractive face.”

Hugh Jackman

New York cosmetic dentist Emanuel Layliev, DDS: “Hugh Jackman’s smile has a masculine, sporty and sophisticated style. He reveals a broad smile with straight lower edges. His upper teeth have sharp, square corners with some natural variation. His full smile doesn’t show too much of his gum line and is surrounded by well-defined lips.”

Scarlett Johansson

Charlotte, NC, dermatologist Gilly Munavalli, MD: “Scarlett Johansson is often referenced by my patients for two of her distinct features: her lips and cheeks. Scarlett comes by her full lips honestly, but not everyone is as blessed in that department. I employ hyaluronic acid fillers to give my patients a more perceptible, yet natural pout and to highlight the lip borders. Additionally, her attractiveness underlies her symmetrical features and almost perfect heart-shaped facial structure.”

Jessica Alba

New York cosmetic dentist Emanuel Layliev, DDS: “Jessica has a full smile with perfectly proportional teeth surrounded by proper gum reveal and voluminous lips. Her upper central incisors are dominant and draw the center of attention coupled with proper symmetry of her remaining teeth. Her smile plane follows the shape of her lower lip. Her teeth have the correct contour and shape with square corners in the center. Her smile is sexy and sleek.”

Atlanta cosmetic dentist Ronald Goldstein, DDS: “Patients bring in photos of celebrity smiles they find attractive, whether or not it will look good on their face. First they see whiter teeth, which is usually photoshopped; an arrangement of straighter teeth, even though in reality their teeth are not perfectly straight and a smile that is proportionate to the celebrity’s face. Jessica has it all!”

Madonna

New York vein specialist Luis Navarro, MD: “Patients bring in Madonna’s photo to show the protruding veins on the back of her hands. The big veins on hands give an appearance of ‘old hands.’”
