Take Precautions With Topical Anesthetics
By NewBeauty Staff |
Laser hair removal, microdermabrasion, and other treatments available at medspas may come with an offer of a topical anesthetic, like lidocaine cream, for your comfort. However, despite their common use, topical anesthetics must be approached with caution.
Although topical, the anesthetic can absorb through the skin and enter your blood stream. If the area treated is too large, or too much topical anesthetic is used over time, it can result in an irregular heartbeat, seizures and, in rare cases, even death.
For these very serious reasons, the only place and time topical (or any) anesthetic product should be administered is in a medical setting under the supervision of a properly trained medical practitioner.
