5 Facts About Cosmetic Surgery You Didn’t Know
The latest American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Statistics on Cosmetic Surgery demonstrated that 2014 was a big year for plastic surgery. While it wasn’t surprising to see procedures like butt augmentations and chemical peels on the list of the most popular procedures, there were five things in that report that were quite fascinating.
Liposuction Is The Most Popular Procedure Among Men
It turns out that men are just as concerned with body fat as women are. Out of the 1 million cosmetic procedures performed on men, liposuction was the most popular. Other procedures popular amongst men? Rhinoplasty, breast reduction and face lifts.
More Women Are Getting Their Breast Augmentations Re-done
Contrary to popular belief, getting a breast augmentation isn’t a one-time deal. They may require some type of tweaking, from changing the implant size to fixing post-op sagging. With the number of people getting initial breast procedures went down, the number of revision surgeries went way up (30 percent from the year before), proving that you may not get it done right the first time.
35 to 50 Year Olds Have the Most Work Done
People aren’t letting the hands of time dictate their beauty look and are turning to cosmetic surgery to address their aging concerns. Over 4 million of the procedures performed in 2014 were done on those between the ages of 35 and 50, the age group where fine lines and sagging skin are top concerns. Liposuction was also a popular procedure for this demographic.
Minorities Make Up 22% of all Cosmetic Procedures
The report also revealed that many minorities are getting work done as well. They made up 22 percent of all the cosmetics procedures done last year. Hispanics were the biggest ethnic group, followed by African-Americans and Asians.
Botulinum Toxin Is #1 Nonsurgical Procedure for the 14th Straight Year
Liposuction may rule the surgical category but when it comes to nonsurgical procedures Botox reigns supreme. Since 2000, it’s been the top cosmetic procedure, with over 4 million injected last year. It goes to show that when it comes to getting smoother, younger looking skin this injectable is still the way to go.
