Easy Ways to Tone Up Your Arms

We all want our arms to look their very best. Unfortunately, as elasticity and lean muscle mass diminish with age, the skin on the backs of our upper arms begins to droop, creating what are known as “batwings.” But with the right exercises, products and treatments, you can achieve sleeker, sculpted arms in no time.

Quick Contouring
Skin-firming creams and lotions, as well as self-tanners, can create the illusion of more toned arms. A sunless tan is an extra-easy way to look more toned. After the product is applied to each arm and dries, flex your muscles with your arms extended out. Paint a darker shade between your bicep and tricep to create a “shadow effect” for added definition

The Workout Way
Exercising with resistance bands and small weights helps tone up the arms. Situated in Northeastern Pennsylvania, The Lodge at Woodloch features classes designed to get your arms in tip-top shape. One of its most popular, “Up in Arms,” uses resistance bands, dumbbells and body bars to tone and tighten the arms. “We focus on the shoulders, biceps and triceps, in addition to the chest and back, to improve balance and strength while keeping muscles in the entire upper body long and lean,” says Jordan Hartey, exercise physiologist at Woodloch.

Dramatic Difference
Looking for a noninvasive way to tighten loose skin on your arms? CoolSculpting, an FDA-cleared cooling process, fights flab by freezing fat cells underneath the skin to eliminate them without causing any damage to the surrounding cells or tissue. (Liposuction may be a better option for some.) “As we age, the skin on the arms generally gets softer, which causes it to sag,” says Houston plastic surgeon Henry Mentz, MD. “Most women become uncomfortable with their arms because they can’t wear the clothing they like, and conditions tend to worsen with menopause. CoolSculpting is effective for patients who have some extra fat on their arms. Usually the fatty tissue shrinks by about 10 to 20 percent. However, it does not improve skin looseness, so if there has been significant weight loss, a surgical procedure such as a brachioplasty (arm lift) is a better option.” Skin tighteners may minimally help those with moderate amounts of fat, but to treat a lot of excess skin, an arm lift is your best bet.

to all, I had smart lipo on 1/4/2013 - and still seven months later I am in absolute horrendous pain? The Dr had not bothered to read anything prior to her starting my procedure. After an hour into procedure she asked me your not taking any meds by prescription or recreation are you and I said yes I am - I noted it in the forms I had to fill out and I stated I took pristiq 1 perday. Your office staff told me I did not have to take it for 2 days prior to procedure and the dr immediately switched off the lidocaine and let me suffer in horrendous paint for 3 more torturous hours. I had paid for 7 areas to be smart lipod and I know she done only 4 as I was wide awake, however she lied and changed my invoice to state I had 6 areas treat and refunded me for only the 1 not done and it should have been the 3 that was not done? Other than that I am still having a shocking interaction with them as my invoice was $11k, and on 12/28/2012 I gave my $5500 cash so I only owed them another $5500 which I would deliver the day before procedure. They asked me for a copy of my CCard and it was only for back up as I was taking the other $5500 the day before the procedure . However, on 12/28/12 they didnt just take the $5500 cash from me, they also illegally withdrew another $11k from my bank acct which infuriated me. She & her husband own the company, and has totally ignored every attempt to speak to her. She still owes me $5195 ( the extra monies they fraudulently w/drew from my acct& kept & for the 3 areas they did not treat)? Smart lipo done on my upper arms has left them in a total mess.I have begged for my monies back as I so desperately need it to get the med help I need as me & my dr know she has nipped the nerves in both my upper arms and the pain is dreadful. Dr also left my arms and inner thighs in a shocking saggy mess that I feel I am on the verge of reporting her because procedure shd have stopped asap as she was aware I had taken a med for 2 day B4 proc&shd have been 14!
