New Clear Clinic Takes Acne Very Seriously
Recently, I've heard a lot of dermatologists refer to adult acne as an "epidemic." Meaning, it is affecting a disproportionately large number of women in America at the same time. And the stats prove it. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne is the most common skin disorder in the United States, affecting 40 million to 50 million Americans, with 80 percent of the population experiencing it at some point of their life.
Whether this widespread problem is due to the stresses of modern life, hormone imbalances or the excessive consumption of processed foods, it's safe to say acne is serious business—so serious that new concepts in acne care are upon us. One such concept is an acne-only clinic in New York City, designed specifically to address the growing problem and treat it. Under the supervision of acne specialist and New York dermatologist Eric Schweiger, MD, Clear Clinic was designed to "truly give complete care to all patients with acne, and make optimal care easier to obtain,” he says. “We are open 7 days per week and take walk-in appointments—something that differentiates us. We don’t think people should be fighting acne alone anymore."
With two locations in the city, Clear Clinic has a team of board-certified dermatologists on call to treat patients with severe to moderate acne. They also offer memberships, almost like a gym, in order to get your face in fighting form. The program is called Clear Club, and is a "monthly membership program that offers reduced rates on laser and light acne treatments for a low monthly fee," says Dr. Schweiger. This gives patients who might not have been able to afford these treatments in the past, a chance to benefit from them.
The concept is interesting to say the least. Hopefully they will continue in their plan to have national reach in the near future and other dermatologists will take note.
