What to Look for in a Tooth Whitening Kit

A smile can leave a lasting impression on just about anyone. But whether it’s a good or bad one is up to them to decide. Luckily, there are ways to make sure that you dazzle each person you come across with a gorgeous grin. And one of those involves at-home whitening kits. Here’s what to look for:

“When searching for an at-home whitening kit, look for either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide,” says Sarasota, FL, cosmetic dentist Jenifer Back, DMD. These are the only two active ingredients in whitening solutions that will give you the results you want.

Dr. Back is a fan of Ultradent Treswhite, Zoom Weekender Kit and the little known product, Gly-Oxide. Gly-Oxide contains 10 percent active carbamide peroxide and is a gentle, safe and inexpensive way to get the results you want.

For the absolute best results with an at-home kit, use it right after a professional dental cleaning. “When all stains, tartar and plaque are removed, the whitening gel can get to all parts of your teeth,” says Dr. Back.

Another tip from Dr. Back, avoid products with before and after images that seem unbelievable. Odds are, they are too good to be true.
