New Noses for Young Hollywood
Celebrity nose jobs are not uncommon, however what is unique, is the fact that young starlets in the dawn of their careers are getting rhinoplasty. And not only are they going under the knife, they are openly talking about it.
Both Dianna Agron and Ashley Tisdale have confirmed that they have had their noses done, although both claim the surgery was intended to fix a deviated septum.
"A deviated septum is the most common cause of breathing issues in the nose," says Beverly Hills, CA, facial plastic surgeon Babak Azizzadeh, MD. Nonetheless he points out that you can fix a deviated septum for breathing issues with septoplasty, which is purely an internal correction of the septal cartilage and is not for aesthetic reasons. A rhinoplasty, on the other hand, which the ladies received, addresses external changes to the nose.
"Every person has a deviated septum, you have one and I have one, in different varying degrees. Anyone who is having their nose done can use that as a valid 'excuse,' when in truth, they just don't like the way their nose looks," adds Beverly Hills, CA, plastic surgeon Lawrence M. Koplin, MD. "They might have their septum straightened and their breathing helped, but I think it's disingenuous to say you are getting rhinoplasty just so you can breath better."
For whatever reason, young stars like Agron, Tisdale and even Blake Lively (who has not confirmed she had surgery) get rhinoplasty, it's best that they get it done early instead of later in their careers, says Dr. Koplin. "From a technical point of view, if you need to do something with the bones of the nose, it's better to do it younger as the bones become more brittle and not as controllable when you reshape or move them later in life." Dr. Azizzadeh agrees. He says the best time for rhinoplasty is in the late teens, early twenties. "It's much better to do it on the early side also because there is better skin elasticity and younger, healthier skin is capable of healing better with an improved aesthetic outcome."
What do you think? Do these young starlets look better with their new noses?
