According to The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), about 28,200 forehead lifts were performed in the United States in 2011. Compared to about 116,000 facelifts, it’s clear that forehead lifts (or brow lifts) aren’t topping the charts as one of the most common procedures, but that’s not to say the people undergoing this procedure aren’t satisfied. Or are they?
A new survey published in the latest issue of Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, reveal that most forehead lift patients are satisfied with their results and would recommend the procedure to their friends. This particular procedure repositions the scalp and removes muscles that create forehead wrinkles.
For the study, researchers surveyed 98 forehead lift patients from one German hospital, who underwent an endoscopic forehead lift between 1994 and 2007. The majority of patients were female, with an average age of 60. After a follow-up time of about three years, 63 percent of patients said that they would have the procedure again. Eighteen percent said that they might and 18 percent said that they would not. Results were similar when patients were asked if they would recommend the procedure to others.
The researchers also inquired about the patients’ recovery time. Sixteen of the 28 working patients reported that they needed three weeks away from work for recovery time and nine patients reported they needed less than two weeks.
While most patients said they would recommend the procedure, the 32 percent (about one in seven patients) who said they were unsure or not likely to recommend the procedure, strike some as a rather high number for a plastic surgery procedure.
