Is a Body Lift Right for You?

Genetics, aging, sun damage, pregnancy and major weight fluctuations can all contribute to poor tissue elasticity and result in sagging body parts, think: thighs, upper arms, belly and butt, according to the American Society for Plastic Surgery (ASPS). Diet and exercise is always a good place to start but it’s not always a surefire way to achieve a tight and toned body. A body lift can help create a firmer, younger-looking body contour by improving the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin. But are you a good candidate for a body lift?
According to the ASPS, a good body lift candidate has significant soft tissue looseness in at least one area. Good candidates should be healthy non-smokers with no medical conditions that could possibly impair healing or increase the risk of surgery. Before you decide to undergo a body lift you must be at a stable weight and dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle including a healthy diet and adequate exercise. Since pregnancy can diminish results, if you’re planning on having a child, you should postpone surgery until after your pregnancy.
If you are solely concerned with removing fatty deposits, liposuction may be a better option if your skin has good elasticity. If your skin elasticity is lacking, liposuction in conjunction with a body lift may be beneficial.
Body lift results are visible immediately although it could take up to two years for the results to fully develop. If you maintain a stable weight, you can expect results to be long lasting.
