How Much Weight Should You Gain During Pregnancy?
By NewBeauty Staff |
Most obstetricians recommend gaining no more than 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy, but this depends on your starting weight. If you were underweight before you got pregnant, it may be necessary to gain more than 35 pounds; if you were overweight, your doctor may tell you to gain less.
A good portion of the weight gained during pregnancy isn't fat-it's water. Much of the water weight is confined to the lower body since the pressure the baby places on the circulatory system makes it difficult for the body to fight gravity.
That doesn't mean you should throw caution to the wind when it comes to your eating habits while pregnant. Remember, the more weight you gain, the more there is to lose after having the baby.
