Are You A Candidate For Coolsculpting?

I have good news and bad news. The good news is that there is an easy way to help determine whether you could be a candidate for CoolSculpting, the noninvasive cryolipolysis device that freezes fat cells and kills them so your body can flush them out over time.

The bad news? This test is going to make you more aware of the pockets of fat on your body. Then again, if you are dieting and exercising and getting nowhere in terms of eliminating these small areas, you're already aware of them so you have nothing to lose. Whether the area will respond well to CoolSculpting has a lot to do with the tightness of the fat in that spot because of the hand pieces used during treatment.

“If you can pull the tissue off your body and hold it between your fingers, that would be a good indication that you might be a candidate for CoolSculpting,” says New York plastic surgeon David Rapaport, MD. “What you'll typically get is a 20 to 25 percent fat reduction in the treated area as long as it can be pulled into the hand piece, which suctions the area and holds it for an hour.”

So that means that it's not the best option for the outer thighs. “It can't be a tight collection of fat,” Dr. Rapaport says. “So we can't really use it on the outer thighs because it's rare that there is an outer thigh that can be pulled in the way we need. It's typically too tight and broad.” However, there are plenty of other areas where the device has shown promise, including the lower abdomen, love handles, inner thighs, arms, bra fat and male breast tissue. Where would you get treated?
