France Recalls Fraudulent Breast Implants
By Marci Robin , Senior Online Editor |
Last month, France's health regulators (AFSSAPS) issued a recall of a particular kind of breast implant due to problems with materials and complications.
Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) pre-filled breast implants were found to contain an unapproved type of silicone, which has led to the French government to shut down the manufacturer because of fraud. Furthermore, there has been an unusually high number of reports of rupture and inflammation with the recalled implants.
Although this particular kind of breast implant is made in France, it is believed that the recall may affect tens of thousands of women worldwide. If you are not sure what kind of implants you have, you can inquire with your surgeon's office. Your doctor can tell you if there is any action you should take.
