Does Your Chosen Surgical Center Have Appropriate Accreditation?

If the plastic surgery you're planning to undergo is not going to be performed in a hospital, it is recommended that you undergo your surgical procedure(s) in an appropriate ambulatory surgical center (freestanding or office-based) that has received an accreditation from one of the four national certifying bodies: the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or the Joint Commission.

These accrediting bodies perform independent examinations to certify that the facility's methods of practice comply with the high standards of safety they have established as appropriate for operation, including protocols relating to equipment, surgical staff, sterility, record keeping, and overall environment.

Periodic inspections are performed to ensure continued compliance and patient safety, which should be the priority in any surgical procedure.
