Whiten Your Smile Quickly With Light
By NewBeauty Editors |
When it comes to brightening your teeth, there are lots of teeth whitening treatments to choose from. But if you need some sparkle in a hurry, not all of the options will do the trick. When speed is a concern, many people opt for laser- or light-enhanced whitening because it saves time and provides same-day results.
Before the whitening treatment, expect a thorough examination to determine three things: the type of stains you have, the health of your teeth and gums, and potential sensitivity to bleaching and light.Next, your dentist or hygienist will establish a baseline color of your teeth. This may include taking a photo to help measure the effectiveness of the treatment. Then, your lips and gums will be covered so they are protected from the bleaching solution. The gums will then be painted with a barrier that hardens as it dries to protect them from burning or irritation.
A whitening gel is applied to the teeth, and the light/whitening accelerator is activated. Since most hydrogen peroxide formulas stop working after about 20 minutes, the gel is often removed, and a fresh coat is applied. Sessions can be done three times or more in one visit, depending on the severity of the stains and sensitivity of the patient.
