Adding Antioxidants To Ipl Treatments

Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is one of the most popular treatments available for hyperpigmentation. However, like many medical cosmetic treatments, it has its side effects; namely inflammation, redness, oxidative stress, and even blistering.
These drawbacks may be a thing of the past, however, with findings recently published in the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy.
Ten people underwent three IPL treatments on their entire face, but had a polyphenolic antioxidant solution applied to only one side of their faces six times throughout the series. The researchers found that the treated side experienced far less oxidative stress, and the moisture levels were seen to increase instead of decrease.
The study hinted at benefits beyond the lessening of side effects, showing a strong possibility of enhancing the IPL's rejuvenating results. Further research may confirm this.
