A Vein Treatment As A Weight Loss Solution
By NewBeauty Staff |
Sclerotherapy is one of the most common ways to treat varicose and spider veins; and in the future, it may become an alternative to weight-loss surgery.
In 2008, Johns Hopkins researchers published the findings of a study in which pigs were treated with the varicose vein solution in blood vessels to the stomach. This helped stop production of ghrelin, a hunger hormone, by as much as 60%, making the pigs eat less.
The procedure, called gastric artery chemical embolization (GACE), could prove to be an effective and less invasive alternative to bariatric surgery. However, the emotional aspects of appetite would still have to be addressed in other ways.
