5 Pain-Free, But Effective, Skin Treatments
By Shellie Terry Benson |
If the thought of needles makes you squeamish and surgery is simply out of the question, rest assured you can still get dramatically younger-looking skin with all the gain, but none of the pain. Here are five effective treatments you can find in your dermatologists office or at the spa that are delivered without a pinch, snap, poke or scrape in sight:
Oxygen facial: If your skin is dry or prone to breakouts, an oxygen facial can add a blast of hydration that revives tired-looking or blemished skin. Special serums are delivered deep into the skin through pressurized oxygen. What it feels like: a misting of steam on your face.
Isolaz: Combining vacuum and broadband light, this treatment loosens and removes trapped dirt in the pores and breaks up acne-causing bacteria, revealing immediately clearer, cleaner skin. What it feels like: gentle, warm pressure during the vacuum session.
Medication: Swallowing a pill is pretty painless, and some have skin-boosting benefits like Spironolactone, a diuretic that fights acne; prenatal vitamins that will help grow stronger hair and nails; Biocell Collagen II, intended to alleviate joint pain and also boosts internal hyaluronic acid levels; and Oracea, an anti-inflammatory for rosacea that also fights the effects of aging. What it feels like: not a thing.
Allumera: First a cream is applied, then an LED light is used to fight off photodamage to the skin to produce more rejuvenated skin. Some people may feel a slight prick, but it's virtually pain-free and on the lesser-expensive side of light treatments, making it painless to your wallet, too. What it feels like: warmth on the skin during the procedure.
Topical antioxidants: Free radical damage wreaks havoc to your skin on a cellular level, but applying products infused with natural antioxidant ingredients like green tea, vitamins and berries can hold off free radicals before they attack your cells. What it feels like: the soothing application of serums, creams or lotions.
