Four Fast Frown Fixes
By Shellie Terry Benson |
The saying goes, "turn that frown upside down." Well, we'll take it a bit further: get rid of it all-together. Scrunched eyebrows, hooded eyelids, pronounced nasolabial folds and tight, thin lips can make you look stern or even angry when you're actually happy as can be. Here are four ways to lighten up your look so everyone knows you're not scowling:
Vertical lines develop between your eyebrows after years of squinting at the sun, concentrating or expressing anger. The go-to treatment for this area has been the injectable Dysport. It eliminates those frown lines about two weeks after treatment and results can last up to four months.
To lighten up your eyes where your skin may begin to droop, be sure to clean up your eyebrow arch and use a dark bronze eyeshadow over the lid, followed by a highlighter below your brow line. Also, dot the highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes to brighten them up. Line your eyes on the top and bottom to add definition.
Nasolabial folds run from your nose to your mouth and can really accentuate a frown. The lines occur when your skin begins to lose collagen. Boost it back up with collagen-building topical treatments, such as retinol or peptides. (I've personally been really impressed with Nip+Fab Frown Fix.) Some laser treatments will also help boost collagen in the skin. There are dozens of laser brands, so be sure to ask your plastic surgeon or dermatologist which ones are best for your skin.
Nothing says you're warm and inviting (and not a scowling brat) like full, pretty, smiling lips. In October, Restylane, a hyaluronic acid filler, gained FDA approval specifically for shaping and boosting lip volume.
