Here's What Getting a Nose Job Is Really Like

Twenty-three-year-old Taylor Krauss has some very succinct advice for anyone considering getting a nose job: Trust the process.

“I got rhinoplasty because my nose had been previously broken, and I had a deviated septum that was interfering with my sleep."

As she explains, before she went to Smithtown, NY, facial plastic surgeon James C. Marotta, MD, for the surgery, there was a point where it hurt to touch certain parts of her nose because of how the break had healed.

"Looking at pictures of myself, I couldn’t stand the unevenness of it—it looked like I had two different noses depending on what side you took a picture from! By the time I finally decided to have the surgery done, I had wanted it for about five years. It completely changed my life.”

It's that kind of result that Dr. Marotta says is so satisfying. “Taylor told me she was bothered by her nose her entire life. The greatest thing about what I do is that you can change someone’s life through plastic surgery. You can have a positive impact that goes forward with that patient for the rest of their lives.”

One thing that surprised her: how fast she was able to get back to work. “Within a week, the cast was off and I was essentially back to my regular self, minus some very minor bruising and minimal pain the second day. I actually never even took the pain medication that was prescribed to me, just some extra-strength Tylenol did the trick!”

“My advice to someone having the procedure done: Don’t panic if it’s not what you expected in the first couple of weeks! Once the swelling goes down, you really see the results. My nose looks totally different and much more natural than it did the day the cast came off. The results absolutely exceeded my expectations. It looks so natural—like a better version of myself. Trust the process…it’s worth it!”
