This Brush Could Be The Secret to Kate Middleton’s Signature Hair

All eyes are always on Kate Middleton and for a good reason—be it her makeup, outfit or smile, she always looks flawless. With a fresh blowout always in tow, her brunette locks are no different, leaving everyone around her envious. So when her long-time hairstylist (we’re talking 10 years) Richard Ward spilled his royal hair secrets with People featuring his affordable neverfail product, we made sure to listen.

To get her royal blowout—Ward tells People she receives the “Chelsea Blow Dry”—you’ll need a few products. While Ward says you should invest in a quality blow dryer with a nozzle (to concentrate the heat on the section you’re working on) for this look, you’ll save major bucks on the superstar product. “I always brush the hair through with my anti-bacterial and anti-static Tangle Angel,” says Ward, explaining that it’s a heat-resistant brush that can be used to detangle on either wet or dry hair. Ward uses the brush to prep Middleton’s freshly washed mane, and then follows with his Keratin Bulking Spritz ($71) at the roots. The best part about this magical brush? It rings in at about $17.

Once hair is blow-dried—he uses the Shine Angel brush ($32) for maximum shine and smoothing properties— Ward advises we skip all of the product we’re inclined to spritz, and reaches for classic rollers to lock the curl pattern into place as he dries each individual section. To get the voluminous look Middleton always sports, be sure to lift at the roots. Ward suggests for beginners to be a bit more aggressive than usual with the hair when dealing with the rollers. “If you feel you’re being too aggressive or pulling your hair too much, trust me, you cant be,” he advises. After letting the curls sit in the rollers, he says to gently pull the roller out and twist the hair around your finger as you release. Follow with a smoothing serum when all rollers are out and voila! You just mastered the royal blowout at home.
