If you have yet to try an essence—another one of Korea’s breakthrough beauty exports—you’re missing out. I admit I was a little late to the essence game (I tested a few for a feature in one of our recent issues and wasn’t 100 percent convinced they deserved a spot in my skin care regimen), but this new one from K-Beauty brand Laneige has changed my mind.
Different than serums, essences are typically more lightweight, but still potent and packed with active ingredients that penetrate skin quickly. A new launch this month, Laneige’s Clear-C Advanced Effector ($39) is antioxidant-rich and infused with 92.5 percent superberry extract, which helps brighten, hydrate and provide overall skin conditioning over time. The brand’s exclusive silicium capturing technology keeps the vitamin C fresh and stabilized so it remains effective with each use.

What I like so much about this formula, aside from the delicate scent, is that it’s incredibly light (it literally feels like water) and sinks right into my skin—I use a cotton pad to press it in. The result is a smooth, even canvas that makes it super easy to apply moisturizer or BB cream afterward, and then makeup on top. Another little detail that stands out: The side of the bottle tells you how many days you have used it so you know what you have left (you get about 30 days worth in each one using it both day and night). Needless to say, I’m a fan!
