If it’s been three years since you underwent breast augmentation surgery with silicone implants, you may want to get an MRI. Even if your implants seem to look and function perfectly, this is a guideline set by the FDA, and implant manufacturers and plastic surgeons are required to communicate it to you. The recommendation also includes additional MRI screenings every two years thereafter.
The cost for an MRI implant screening varies, but expect to pay around $1,000. Insurance does not pay for this screening, and it is not a substitute for a mammogram or ultrasound to assess breast health and screen for potential breast cancer.
Although recommended by the FDA, it is your choice to undergo the MRI just as it is your choice to have the implants in the first place.
